Russian media: Ukrainian rejected conditions proposed by Russia to reduce natural gas prices

China Economic Net Beijing August 25 (intern reporter Huanghe) According to the Russian "Izvestia" reported on August 24th: Russian President Dmitry Medvedev talked with North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il: Some time ago, After Russia decides to reduce the price of natural gas exported to Belarus next year, Ukraine may also follow the example of Belarus and ask Russia to lower gas prices. This argument has been negated by the Ukrainian side.

Medvedev said that the current natural gas supply agreement between Russia and Uzbekistan should continue to be implemented. He also added that Russia will consider implementing "different programs" (referring to exporting natural gas to Uzbekistan).

Prior to this, Aleksey Miller, CEO of ОАОГразпром ("GAO"), stated that the cooperation between Russia and Ukraine on natural gas cooperation and development will be in accordance with Russia and Belarus. The two countries had reached an agreement beforehand. However, Ukrainian Prime Minister Azarov said: The gas cooperation agreement between Minsk and Moscow will not work in Kiev.

It is worth mentioning that Gazprom already owns half of Belarusian natural gas transportation companies, and now plans to purchase the remaining 50% of the shares for the purpose of holding Belarus’s natural gas pipeline in full. Perhaps based on such considerations, the Russian side had previously stated that it would reduce the price of natural gas exported to Belarus.
