Scientists develop new two-dimensional materials

According to foreign media reports, scientists from the CSIRO and RMIT University have developed two-dimensional nanomaterials that are expected to make "nano" widely available.

Two-dimensional nanomaterials consist of several layers of molybdenum oxide crystals and have unique properties that can support ultra-high-speed flow of free electrons. Articles on this material have been published in the January issue of Materials Science, Advanced Materials. In the article, the researchers described how they used graphene as a material to develop a new type of conductive two-dimensional nanomaterial.

In 2004, British scientists invented graphene. Although graphene supports high-speed electron flow, its physical properties prevent it from being used in high-speed electronic devices. In response, Dr. Serge Zhuiykov of the Australian Federal Scientific and Technical Organization stated that the new nanomaterial consists of multiple sheets of molybdenum oxide, similar to the graphite layers that make up the pencil lead. “In multi-layer sheet-like molybdenum oxides, electrons can be scattered at minimum and passed at high speed. One of the most important breakthroughs in the materials we developed is how fast and smooth the electrons can pass through new materials.”

Kourosh Kalantar-zadeh of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Melbourne said that researchers can remove the "stumbling blocks" that hinder the advancement of electronics. This is an important step in the development of high-speed electronic devices. "Electronics can scatter after encountering obstacles in traditional electronic materials, and electrons can easily and quickly pass through new materials. Very simple.
