On June 15, 2016, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced the release of a new 1W axial cement wirewound resistor - AC01..CS. The resistor can be safely and silently blown under overload conditions, while a resistor with a resistance greater than 75 Ω can withstand a pulse voltage of at least 2 kV (1.2/50 μs) as required by perIEC61000-4-5.
Vishay DraloricAC01..CS uses a special non-combustible silicone cement coating that has a blow time of less than 30 seconds under 32W overload conditions and can be disconnected immediately when an AC mains voltage (110VAC/230VAC) is applied, without burning or exploding. Typical applications include household appliances, electricity meters, and power supplies.
The device is specially designed to meet the UL1412 safety requirements (under approval). In addition to the explosion when there is no blow, AC01..CS can also be used as a current limiting resistor during normal operation. Vishay has developed a lacquer coating with excellent thermal and electrical insulation properties for safety resistors, which makes it easier for design engineers to meet safety requirements without the need for additional fuses in series with the input resistor.
At 40 ° C and 70 ° C ambient temperature, AC01..CS has a power rating of 1.1 W and 1.0 W. The device is RoHS compliant, with resistance from 3Ω to 100Ω, resistance tolerance of ±5%, and temperature coefficient (TCR) of ±200ppm/K.
Samples of AC01..CS safety resistors are available now and are in volume production with lead times of eight weeks to ten weeks.
