Recently, the world has the highest voltage level (voltage level 1000 kV), the largest transmission capacity (total transmission capacity of 10 million kilowatts), the highest technical level (the deepest burial depth, the highest water pressure, the largest total pipeline length) and the highest installation accuracy. The long-distance GIL innovation project-Sutong 1000 kV UHV AC GIL integrated pipeline corridor project was completed and put into operation, realizing a new leap in the world's power grid technology, and is a world-leading pioneering transmission project. The team and collaborators of Peng Zongren, a professor at the School of Electrical Engineering, Xi'an Jiaotong University, tackled key core technical issues such as UHV AC GIL transmission insulation and discharge in the project.

Researchers have mastered the electro-thermal characteristics of GIL insulation materials, interface materials and conductive materials, obtained the multi-physics distribution law of typical structural engineering application schemes, proposed the methods and methods of pressure equalization, average field, and eliminating interface effects. The influencing factors of the gas-solid interface discharge of the insulator are discussed. The team also found the cause of the discharge ablation and carbonization of the insulator body, optimized the configuration method of the GIL insulator and the type of the voltage-sharing shield structure, realized the uniformity of the multi-physical field distribution and the rationalization of the structure of the UHV GIL insulator, and achieved a series of innovations The achievements have provided an important basis for independent research and development, quality improvement, test evaluation and safe and reliable operation of the world's first UHV GIL transmission equipment, which has significant technical, economic and social benefits.
