According to the European Marine Conservation Organization Surfrider, sometimes microbeads can account for 10% of some cosmetic ingredients. The Surfrider organization also said that the amount of plastic cotton swabs that are recycled from the beach every year is staggering because some people will directly throw used plastic cotton swabs into the toilet. From January 1, 2020, France will ban the sale of household plastic cotton swabs, but medical cotton swabs can still be used. Plastic rods for household cotton swabs may be replaced by degradable paper.

According to the report, the law restricting disposable plastic tableware and cups will also take effect from January 1, 2020. The goal is to reduce the use of disposable plastic tableware by 50% by 2020 and reduce it by 60% by 2025. At that time, the food and beverage take-away is only allowed to use disposable tableware containing ecologically friendly materials.
