The ultra-thin beacons developed this time
How Power Control Works
The Fujitsu Institute has developed a Bluetooth Smart beacon that can be bent or stretched. This product is driven by a solar cell and requires no time to replace the battery. The thickness is 2.5mm and the weight is 3g. Fujitsu Research Institute will verify the performance of new products such as stable work and continuous operation, and strive to achieve practical use in 2016.
Wireless communication modules generally consume a lot of power when they start up. According to reports, if you want to drive a solar cell before, you need to use a large-size storage element such as a battery. Also, there is a need for a power control circuit that can monitor whether sufficient power is stored in the power storage element. These components such as the power storage device and the power supply control circuit are large in size and are not suitable for bending or stretching.
We have developed a power control technology that can temporarily stop the power monitoring function immediately before communication to suppress power consumption and use power for communication startup. As a result, the size of the storage element is reduced to about 1/9 of the original, and the power supply control circuit is also simplified. In the end, the area occupied by parts is reduced to about 1/6 of the original.
In addition, the Bluetooth Smart beacons that are resistant to bending and stretching are realized by mounting thin-film solar cells and small parts on a retractable silicon film sheet developed by Fujitsu Advanced Technologies. Since the degree of freedom in setting new beacons is improved, it can be applied to places such as ceilings and lighting fixtures that have previously been difficult to set up, and objects such as clothes and human bodies that frequently change in shape.
