Thinfilm, a provider of printed near-field communication (NFC) tags and smart systems, today announced a partnership with Sarine Technologies, a diamond manufacturing and marketing company, to integrate NFC SpeedTap tags into the Sarine Profile sales and consumer protection system.
The Sarine Profile is a collection of tools and information for retailers and consumers, including details of each diamond size and its graded image. Thinfilm explained that for jewelers, the system provides an interactive sales tool that can help reduce sales inventory and increase conversion rates. For consumers, the system provides diamond details to help make purchasing decisions and provide proof of source of diamonds.
The SpeedTap label belongs to Thinfilm's OpenSense product line, which is a thin, flexible label that provides a "seal" and "on" status for a range of detectable products and provides content information in NFC reading. The SpeedTap label is made using a printing process. These labels were originally used to identify the contents of the bottle or to determine if the seal has been opened. SpeedTap operates in the 13.56MHz band and is compatible with the ISO 14443 Type A RFID standard and can be read using both fixed and mobile NFC RFID readers. The tag has 128 bytes of read-only memory and supports popular data structures such as the 96-bit GS1 EPC. The label is less than 300 microns thick and can be integrated into the product's packaging or label.
Sarine will attach a SpeedTap tag to the paper diamond information card to read information card information via an NFC phone. Sarine's custom programs enhance the user experience while providing content management, analysis and reporting. The company is also currently planning to expand its deployment and attach a SpeedTap tag to the ring instead of a traditional tag.
Sarine Technologies CEO Uzi Levami said: "By working with Thinfilm, Sarine can use NFC technology to enhance the Sarine Profile experience. The use of SpeedTap tags allows retailers and customers to share the thrilling story of the diamond world."
