Mobile service providers use solar energy to power telecommunication towers

If the mobile phone service provider can follow instructions from the central government and replace the diesel generators that power its network with solar panels, the sleep of community residents will not be interrupted by the noise of the nearby telecommunication towers. The Indian Ministry of New Energy (MNRE) made the above recommendations based on the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission to help the country overcome the power shortage.

The website of the Ministry of New Energy pointed out that there are currently about 400 telecommunication towers powered by solar panels. These telecommunications towers are located in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, belonging to BSNL, telecommunication tower infrastructure company GTL and Indus Towers.

Tarun Kapoor, the joint secretary of the New Energy Ministry, said: "The cost of diesel power generation equipment is 1.5 times that of solar panels, and it also causes serious environmental pollution."

In May of this year, Greenpeace had asked the company of the mobile telecommunications tower to replace solar equipment.

Abhishek Kumar, a senior activist at Greenpeace, points out: “Local governments in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh provide a 30% subsidy for companies that install solar panels. Private telecommunications companies It is preparing to turn to solar power, but it is not yet ready to invest heavily."

However, don't expect private telecom operators to adopt solar energy soon.

An employee of a mobile phone service provider said: “We have not received any relevant government notice. Private operators will turn to solar power, provided that such projects have already been carried out elsewhere and have been successful.”

At present, India has more than 400,000 telecom towers. Of these, 60% are powered by diesel generators. Due to frequent power outages, telecommunications companies in the city were forced to use diesel engines for long periods of time to generate electricity.
