Chapter 5 of this standard is mandatory and the rest are recommended.
The degree of consistency between this standard and JIS G2401 - 1979 "Scrap Steel Classification" is not equivalent.
This standard replaces GB/T4223—1996 “Waste Steelâ€.
Compared with GB/T4223~1996, the technical content of this standard has been modified as follows:
——Removing the definition and related content of recycled scrap; specifying the maximum size and maximum weight of scrap steel parts;
- Eliminated 4 terms from the original standard and added 6 terms and their definitions;
—— Changed the classification of scrap iron, and divided the scrap iron into 3 categories and 4 varieties based on the chemical composition and outer dimensions of scrap iron;
——Changed the classification of scrap steel, proposed new dimensions and single weights and corresponding acceptance conditions, and divided scrap into five categories: heavy scrap, medium scrap, small scrap, unloaded scrap, and light scrap.
——Adjusting the grouping of alloy scrap steel, from the original standard of 5 steels and 67 steel groups, merged and simplified into 46 steel and 46 steel groups, and adjusted them into informative appendices;
——Reducing the content of S and P in scrap steel from O.080% of the original standard to O.050%;
- increased the requirements for the classification of scrap steel;
—— Increased requirements for environmental control, radioactive material control, etc., and added some parts of inspection items and test methods.
This standard shall be abolished from GB/T4223-1996 <Waste Steel from the date of implementation.
Appendix a of this standard is a normative appendix, and Appendix B is an informative appendix.

Scrap steel
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, classification, technical requirements, inspection items and inspection methods, acceptance rules, transportation and quality certificates of scrap steel.
This standard is applicable to scrap steel for smelting used as charge in steel making, iron making, casting and ferroalloy smelting, and non-smelting scrap steel for general use.

For dated references, all subsequent amendments that do not include errata or revisions do not apply to this standard. However, parties to agreements based on this standard are encouraged to study whether the latest versions of these documents are available. 3 terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this standard.
3.1
Smelting scrap iron ironandsteelscrapsforsmelting
Steel scrap and steel products that cannot be used as intended and must be used for smelting and recycling.
3.2
Non-smelting scrap iron ironandsteelscrapsfornon-smelting
It cannot be used as it is, and it is not used as a steel product for smelting recovery and rolling steel.
3.3
Hazard injurant
It has substances that will adversely affect the quality of the molten metal and the environment.
3.4
Inclusion inclusion
Refers to other substances that are mixed or entrained in scrap steel during collection, packaging, and transportation.
3.5 delivery batch deliverylot
Use scrap steel of the same model category or multiple model categories that arrive at the same vehicle.
3.6 inspection lot inspectionlot
A batch of scrap steel of the same model type that is collected as a test object.
4 classification
Scrap steel is divided into two categories: scrap iron and scrap steel.
4.1 scrap iron
4.1.1 The carbon content of scrap steel is generally greater than 2.0%. The sulfur content (mass fraction) and phosphorus content (mass fraction) of high-quality scrap iron are not more than 0.070% and 0.40%, respectively. The sulfur content (mass fraction) and phosphorus content (mass fraction) of ordinary scrap steel and alloy scrap iron are not more than 0.12% and 1.00%, respectively. The iron content of the blast furnace additive should not be less than 65.0%.
4.1.2 Scrap iron is divided into scrap iron for smelting and scrap iron for waste smelting according to its use.
4.1.2.1.1 Scrap iron for smelting is classified by quality and shape, as specified in Table 1.

4.1.2.1.3 The scrap iron of the type and size specified in Table 1 may also be supplied by agreement between the supplier and the purchaser.
4.1.2.2 Non-smelting scrap iron
Non-smelting scrap iron is no longer classified and is determined by agreement between the supplier and the buyer.
4.2 scrap steel
4.2.1 The carbon content of scrap steel is generally less than 2.0%, and the sulfur content is not more than 0.050%.
4.2.2 The residual elements in the non-alloy scrap steel should meet the following requirements: the mass fraction of nickel is not more than 0.30%, the mass fraction of chromium is not more than 0.30%, and the mass fraction of copper is not more than 0.30%. Except for manganese and silicon, the sum of other residual elements (mass fraction) is not more than 0.60%.
4.2.3 Scrap steel is divided into smelting scrap and non-smelting scrap according to its use.
4.2.3.1 Smelting scrap
4.2.3.1.1 The scrap steel for the furnace is divided into five models according to its external dimensions and weight per piece, as specified in Table 2.
