High-precision graphene sensor is introduced to detect indoor air pollution and maintain health

Scientists at the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom and the Institute of Advanced Science and Technology in Japan have developed a sensor based on graphene that detects indoor air pollution with high precision. This research was recently published in the journal Science Progress.

The newly developed sensors sense carbon dioxide molecules from buildings and furniture, as well as volatile organic compound (VOC) gas molecules.

In recent years, health problems caused by air pollution in the living environment of individuals have increased. The concentration levels of these harmful chemical gases are typically in the order of parts per billion (ppb), which are difficult to detect with existing environmental sensing technologies because these sensors can only detect this in parts per million (ppb). In the experiment, the researchers detected carbon dioxide gas at a concentration of about 30 ppb in just a few minutes.
