"The Earth's Boat" opens solar environmental protection residential dream circle

In a chilly morning, Dutch boy Paul, in his thirties, is doing a lot of work on his home’s work site. “This kind of house I built has a special name called 'boat of the earth',” he said. “This is A new type of green building."

The “boat of the earth” is a concept of housing construction proposed by American architect Mike Reynolds in the 1970s. It entails the dream of architects to reduce energy consumption and environmental pollution and to carry human beings to live better on Earth.

This hut is being built by Paul and is located in the Dutch town of Alster. Here has developed a whole piece of "boat of the earth" residential area. Forty adult residents applied for the site and are now building their own eco-friendly huts.

As Europe's first "boat of the earth" community, this 23 residential buildings will be built entirely in accordance with the three "golden ideas" of such houses. The so-called three "golden ideas" are: First of all, its building materials should be completely from the building site, and use renewable materials as much as possible; Second, the house must use natural energy, can be completely independent of the grid; Finally, to fit without any Ordinary people with building skills build their own.

"The 'boat on earth' is a zero-pollution building that can be said to have been built with as much renewable 'junk' as possible. The energy supply is mainly based on solar panels," Paul said as he was busy. Residents can live independently without relying on electricity systems, which means they are not connected to the grid, and people grow their own vegetables, which minimizes the impact on the natural environment."

Paul's hut has an arched exterior wall, and the outer wall is covered with solar panels. The whole building is horseshoe-shaped and has sloping windows, which is more conducive to obtaining sunlight and heat in winter.

"Besides, we also use 'passive solar' for heating. There is a glass wall on the south side of the house that allows the sun to pass through the walls as much as possible," Paul said.

Using the work gap, Paul led reporters into the interior of his unfinished cottage. It looks a bit like a Mongolian yurt, the exterior of the cottage is mainly filled with scrap tires, and the internal wall is currently covered with a layer of straw. “These walls can absorb sunlight, and when the outdoor cools, they can radiate heat into the room. This is why the house does not require any additional heating,” Paul proudly told reporters: “You can see here To a lot of re-use of materials. This is another embodiment of this concept of environmental protection of the house."

The birthplace of "The Earth's Boat" is the sunny state of New Mexico. However, the design principle of this architecture is not applicable everywhere.

It is precisely for this reason that the “boat of the earth” must be adapted to local conditions in different corners of the world. To date, only about 1,000 such special houses have been completed worldwide. Of course, if you can find a suitable improvement program, this unique eco-friendly cottage is still quite attractive.
